John C. Gregory, Regional Manager of TWRA’s Region IV Office in Morristown, has retired after over 38 years of service.

An Oak Ridge, Tn. native, Mr. Gregory attended the University of Tennessee in Knoxville earning a Bachelor of Science degree in Forestry in 1977. Upon graduation, he began his career with TWRA as a trainee forester at Cheatham Wildlife Management Area, located just west of Nashville in Cheatham Co.  After promoting to Forester 1 and Forester 2 while at Cheatham, he was named staff forester of the Real Estate and Forestry Division in 1992 and ultimately became Division Chief in 1994.

Most recently, he transferred to his final position with TWRA as the Region IV Manager in 2009.

Having spent a great deal of time in both middle and east Tennessee, Mr. Gregory was honored with two retirement parties by his coworkers.  On Jan. 11, a retirement party was held for him at the Region IV office in Morristown.  About 90 people, including, family, friends, agency employees and professional colleagues attended the gathering to celebrate his career with a lunch, video presentations and short speeches by several people including Mr. Gregory.  At the Jan. 18 meeting of the Tennessee Fish and Wildlife Commission held at the Region II Office in Nashville, he enjoyed another round of best wishes from TFWC commissioners and colleagues in that area. The gathering included food, video presentations, a poem from TWRA Executive Director Ed Carter and presentation of a plaque and a .357 revolver commemorating his years of service to the agency.

During his retirement, Mr. Gregory is an avid fisherman who lives on Douglas Lake in Jefferson Co. and expects to enjoy time on the water with his family.  He and his wife Mickey are also Tennessee Titans season ticket holders and plan to continue attending football games. He will be sorely missed by his colleagues at TWRA who want to wish him and his family all the best in a happy retirement.
